Sometimes finding a healthy place to eat can be a real task, especially in tourist destinations such as Puerto Vallarta where you can find an extensive amount of cuisines. With a large floating population from around the world international cuisines mingle with Mexican dishes such as enchiladas, pozole, and tamales. But, in all honesty, as delicious as they might be, being healthy is not one of their qualities. To make things easier for you we’ve put together a list of our top three healthy restaurants that you can find in Puerto Vallarta. These places are not just healthy, but they also have delicious food, so you won’t have to sacrifice taste for health.
Salud Superfoods
Salud superfood they prides on great flavor and health, as they offer a variety of dishes where they use “superfoods” as their core ingredients. Superfoods are minimally processed foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, that are rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The best part of superfoods is that they provide multiple daily nutrients that your body requires without too many calories! Now, doesn’t that sound like a dream come true? Salud Superfoods is located on Olas Altas in South Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romantica, and is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
What to order? Here you can find the entire menu for Salud Superfoods, but our personal favorite is the Cali, a wrap with mushrooms, egg, spinach, avocado, green onion, potato, and Mennonite cheese. This wrap is a perfect breakfast, or even lunch. And we just love to pair it up with a Salud Super Antioxidante, which is a delicious smoothie made of mixed berries, banana, yogurt, and organic soy milk. However, pretty much anything on the menu is simply delicious.
Veggie Table
Veggie Table, as you can probably already tell by is name, is a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, but it has a very extensive menu that will surely be a great option even for those who aren’t really vegetarians and are just looking for a healthy restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Veggie Table is located on Guerrero 182, Colonia Centro and is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
What to order? This is the only place in Puerto Vallarta where you can get Tempeh (at least that we know of), and they have a delicious dish of rice and tempeh that you just have to try. And, of course, if what you are looking for is a more traditional Mexican dish, then you cannot miss out on their version of tortas ahogadas.
Planeta Vegetariano
Planeta Vegentariano, as the name implies, is a vegetarian restaurant that also offers some vegan options. This no frill restaurant is two blocks away from “el malecón” (the only boardwalk in Puerto Vallarta where you will find the famous seahorse sculpture, restaurants and clubs)on Calle Iturbide 270 between Hidalgo and Matamoros, and it is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as it opens from 8 a.m. up until 9:00 p.m.
What to order? Now, they do have a variety of dishes from which you can try, but it is best known for its buffet, as you can try many different options. It includes non-alcoholic drinks and dessert. The price for this buffet is of $95 MXN per person.
Puerto Vallarta is home to many different restaurants and cafés, which makes choosing a lot harder. Most good restaurants will have dishes that are already healthy because of the core ingredients, but unlike these three we have pointed out they will not have a full healthy menu from which to choose. At Transformationmx we provide healthcare and medical services in Puerto Vallarta to expats and visitors alike, and value good eating habits. These are our top three healthy restaurants in Puerto Vallarta that serve either healthy food or vegan/vegetarian food an we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
